Country Woodland Scheme

We have just added soft teal and river mist colour ways to our Thorncombe Fern and Dragonfly collections, so we thought we would use them for a stunning mood board. This lovely soft woodland scheme would be perfect for a living room or kitchen / dining area to bring a touch of the countryside into your home.

The collection of fabric we have selected was inspired by our favorite Thorncombe woods near Dorchester, here in Dorset. As a family we have spent many hours there walking the dogs and relaxing by the little pool watching dancing dragonflies and teal coloured damselflies dancing across the water, such a serene and beautiful spot.

Your sitting room and living spaces are where you spend a good deal of time and you should feel comfortable and relaxed in your surroundings. This lovely soft country scheme fits the bill perfectly.

We have chosen Thorncombe Fern, large, in soft teal as the focal point for full length curtains. The design definitely brings the outside in and suits both traditional and contemporary homes and would be especiallly stunning in a country cottage teamed with natural wood and stone. The soft teal colour adds depth and contrast without being too harsh. Our brand new Studio Stripe in Heron's Egg would add a luxurious finish if used for the curtain linings too.

If you would like to add Roman blinds along side these curtains, our Devon Stripe River Mist or reverse colourway would look very smart.

For cushions we would recommend our co-ordinating Devon and Studio Stripes or popular Cow Parsley linen in soft teal or River Mist. All are perfect for adding layers to your sofas and chairs.

Lighting makes a huge difference to your room and can completely change the atmosphere. Empire shades often compliment a traditional style, whilst drum shades can be better in a more contemporary setting.  Please click here to read our lighting blog.

Shade Suggestions:

Empire - Country Dot In River Mist, Cow Parsley in River Mist Or Dragonfly Soft Teal.

Drum - Devon Stripe River Mist On White and reverse, Studio Stripe In Heron's Egg.

Both Soft Teal and River Mist sit well with other colours on the spectrum making it easy and versatile to fit with existing decor / furniture. You can always add a splash of colour should you wish e.g a pink throw or a splash of gold.

Regarding walls, our Cow Parsley Soft Teal wallpaper would co-ordinate with this scheme beautifully for a feature wall in a larger space. Otherwise we would suggest using Farrow & Ball Wimborne White or Pointing and Oval Room or Light blue for a feature wall or if you require more depth depending how light /dark / cosy you wish to make your room.

Vicky and I hope you like this restful scheme, don't forget you can order samples online and we are always here to answer any questions you may have about putting our collections together.

We thought we would end our blog with a beautiful prose written by Vicky's husband which he wrote back in the Autunm after many daily walks through Thorncombe Woods.

"A golden mosaic leads the way, each leaf carefully placed like they are meant to be, a flash of green and then another; the dragonflies dance. The thump of acorns finished for the summer, squirrels perform their latest show. Flanked by wise oak; your imagination is captured; if only they had eyes and mouths the stories they could tell, the lessons they could teach; and back again. As you follow the Robin's song, you loose yourself as you take a walk through Thorncombe Wood."
